Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare for paving project
   • Requirements of the paving project are clarified with client/supervisor and enterprise guidelines.
   • Equipment and material resource requirements are identified according to the scope of the construction work and the supervisor's instructions.
   • The environmental implications of the proposed work are identified.
   • Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) hazards are identified, risks assessed and controls implemented.
   • Personal protective equipment (PPE) is selected, used, maintained and stored.
   • Delivery of materials to site is organised according to workplace priorities.
2. Set out and prepare the site
   • Site and hazards are identified, risks assessed and suitable controls implemented.
   • Site bunting is erected, pedestrian access is controlled, and safety signage is placed where appropriate.
   • Services are determined and located from site plans.
   • Provision for irrigation lines to cross paved areas is made, where applicable.
   • The paving pattern is marked out according to plans and specifications.
   • Sub-base material is placed and compacted to the required finished levels.
   • Surface drainage is incorporated according to design drawings and specifications.
3. Coordinate paving project installation
   • Paving project is constructed according to plan.
   • Appropriate drainage is installed according to plan.
   • Tools, equipment and machinery are used safely according to enterprise operating procedures and OHS requirements.
4. Check quality of work and clean up site
   • Quality of finished works is inspected to ensure the standard of the finished project is in accordance with design drawings and specifications.
   • Paved surfaces are cleaned down in an environmentally safe and sensitive manner.
   • Tools and equipment are cleaned and stored according to enterprise guidelines.
